WORKSHOP TOPICS/DESCRIPTIONS:
Work/Life Balance for Professionals
We identify multiple areas of our lives that we are trying to balance, consider challenges to living a more balanced life, outline common mistakes that result in imbalance, and emphasize strategies for inviting more balance into our lives.
Work/Life Balance for Academics
We discuss the demands of research/writing, teaching/clinical/lab time, and service, consider challenges to balancing these requirements, outline common mistakes that perpetuate proportional imbalance, and emphasize strategies for more proportional balance of these expectations while still enjoying our work.
Work/Life Balance for Graduate Students
We discuss the challenges at different stages of graduate school (from adjusting, to course work and writing, to comprehensive exams and dissertation, to going on the market), identify common mistakes that graduate students make, then offer strategies for surviving and thriving in graduate school.
Home Life
We examine the distribution of duties at home, explore the challenges to balancing our roles and responsibilities with partners/significant others, parents/elders, children, friends, pets, (or even just ourselves), identify common mistakes that leave our home lives in a state of imbalance, emphasize strategies for inviting more balance into our home lives while still loving ourselves and enjoying our loved ones.
Wellness and Self-Care
We reflect on the care of our mind, body, soul, and self, examine common mistakes and myths about wellness and self-care, and emphasize strategies to prioritize physical exercise, mental health, nutrition, and sleep by loving and taking better care of ourselves.
Getting My Life Together
Sometimes balance seems like a lofty goal and the more immediate need is simply "getting my life together." We identify what is on our plates, what is falling through the cracks, and concrete strategies for gaining a greater sense of control over our lives.
The Pleasure Principle: from Balance to Bliss
We move beyond balance to, dare I say it, cultivating habits of pleasure in our lives each day! We identify what gives us pleasure (this will vary from person to person) and then emphasize strategies to develop pleasure as a daily practice in our journey from balance to bliss. Radical, I know!
Workshop and Keynote Formats
In person, On-site workshops are deliverable as:
- 60 minute workshop or keynote
- 90 minute workshop or keynote
- half day workshop (2.5 hours)
- full day workshop (5 hours, usually combining two of the above workshop topics)
- multi-day workshops (covering any combination of the above workshop topics)
